Muang Ngoi, also written “Muang Ngoy,” is a little village along the Nam Ou river, which is only accessible by boat. Located within limestone mountains, it provides stunning panoramas that got the place famous. Besides, Muang Ngoi is a quiet venue where tranquility is the key word and where the few tourists who ventured there want to enjoy the peaceful environment. Outdoor activities are pretty varied: hiking, camping, kayaking, caving, boat cruising. In the village, there is barely a sign of modernity: no bank, no landline telephone or Internet access. Electricity is on only 3 hours a day, from 6-9 pm. The village is constructed around a main street parallel to the river where a few guesthouses and restaurants can be found. At the end of this street sits a Buddhist temple that may be visited. Muang Ngoi is actually a great venue to take a calm break during a trip.
