Want to make a stop at the beach during your trip in Vietnam? Why wouldn’t you go to Mui Ne? This lovely seaside destination features amazing sand dunes and a long beach which is one of the most beautiful in Southeast Asia. Comprising both desert and crystal waters, Mui Ne is not a place you want to put aside.
Mui Ne
There are two different sand dunes in Mui Ne. One features red sand and the other white sand. The Red Sand Dune lies on the main coastal road a short distance of the town whereas the White Sand Dunes are to be found 45 kilometers further. At midday, sand gets really hot but it is nice to swing by in the morning or afternoon. You may encounter children there who will ask you to go down the dune on a slide for a few dozen dongs.
The Fairy Stream is a little river that winds through the colorful dunes and the lush foliage. Take a walk and go upstream the river, pass the ostrich farm and ride one if you feel like it, then keep walking until you see a small waterfall. Enjoy a refreshing bath before heading back to the resort! The Fairy Stream is a very nice venue to stroll outside the hustle and bustle of Mui Ne.
Mui Ne offers ideal conditions for kitesurfing. With its long beaches alongside a windy ocean, it is a great spot to practice this sport in a nice setting. Competitions gathering together kitesurf professionals often take place in Mui Ne. Besides, this nice resort area appeals a lot of Russian tourists, and many bars and restaurants there are Russian-owned.
By the Sea
20 kilometers away from Phan Thiet in Southern Vietnam lies Mui Ne, best-known for its long 16-kilometer white sand beach that appears to be the ideal venue for any traveler willing to take a break in a seaside destination. The area receives the highest amount of sunlight in the country thanks to a microclimate due to the dunes offering shelter from bad weather. Tourism tends to increase as can be seen from the growing number of hotel complexes that are built in the area. In Mui Ne, you may also see fishermen berthing in the early morning to sell their daily products, sailing small circular boats that are very typical.
But what strikes the most in Mui Ne is probably its large red and white sand dunes that make it look like the Sahara desert, a very rare feature in tropical countries. The beauty of the dunes is so stunning that many artists and photographers go there to immortalize it. Dusk remain the best time of the day to contemplate the landscape.
Red sand dunes can be seen at the Fairy Stream, a small stream that resembles a canyon dug right in the middle of the dunes. This natural wonder recalls Australia’s Red Desert. Sand boards are available for rent in the shops and hotels nearby.
Sunbathing and bathing are not the only options in Mui Ne. Though there are no diving activities, you may enjoy water sports such as kayaking, kitesurfing, windsurfing, surfing, sailing and jet ski rental. At the dunes, you can also rent a quad, and on the Fairy Stream, the ostrich farm offers ostrich races.
Mui Ne is not exactly a cultural venue but you may visit Po Sah Inu Temple, a Cham site that encompasses three towers.
Seafood is obviously a big deal in Mui Ne because of its coastal location and a lot of fishing villages in its surroundings. A fish sauce factory can also be visited there, where the entire process of the sauce-making is described.
