\"Chaul<\/p>\n

Comme tous les ans \u00e0 la mi-avril, les communaut\u00e9s khm\u00e8res du monde entier vont f\u00eater le passage \u00e0 la nouvelle ann\u00e9e. H\u00e9rit\u00e9e du bouddhisme, cette c\u00e9l\u00e9bration est l\u2019une des plus importantes du calendrier cambodgien. Cette ann\u00e9e, Chaul Chnam Thmey<\/em>, comme on l\u2019appelle en khmer, d\u00e9butera le 13 avril.<\/p>\n

La l\u00e9gende des traditions de Chaul Chnam<\/h2>\n

\u00c0 l\u2019origine des c\u00e9l\u00e9brations du nouvel an khmer, il y aurait une l\u00e9gende li\u00e9e aux croyances brahmaniques auxquelles le Cambodge\u00a0\u00e9tait jadis attach\u00e9. Le dieu \u00e0 quatre visages Preah Prom<\/strong> aurait un jour entendu parler d\u2019un humain \u00e0 l\u2019intelligence extraordinaire, Thomabal Komar<\/strong>. Voulant le tester, il lui propose une devinette. S\u2019il r\u00e9pond correctement, Preah Prom lui offre sa t\u00eate en guise de r\u00e9compense. Thomabal Komar n\u2019a d\u2019autre choix que d\u2019accepter la demande du dieu et \u00e9coute la question\u00a0: \u00ab Quels sont les trois actes qui apportent chance et r\u00e9ussite chaque jour\u00a0?\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n

Le jeune homme, incapable de r\u00e9pondre, s\u2019enfuit dans la for\u00eat. Lorsqu\u2019il s\u2019arr\u00eate pour se reposer, il surprend la conversation de deux aigles g\u00e9ants. Ils discutent du fait qu\u2019un humain va mourir aujourd\u2019hui car il n\u2019a pas su donner la r\u00e9ponse \u00e0 la question de Preah Prom. Pourtant, la r\u00e9ponse est simple, disent-ils\u00a0!\u00a0Il s\u2019agit du lavage du visage le matin, du torse le midi et des pieds le soir. Apr\u00e8s avoir entendu \u00e7a, Thomabal Komar rentre en ville donner la r\u00e9ponse au dieu. Comme promis, il lui offrit sa t\u00eate. Elle serait enterr\u00e9e en haut du mont Meru<\/strong>, une montagne mythique consid\u00e9r\u00e9e comme l\u2019axe du monde dans le bouddhisme.<\/p>\n

La l\u00e9gende veut que depuis ce moment, une des douze filles du dieu descend le temps d\u2019une ann\u00e9e pour s\u2019occuper de la t\u00eate de son p\u00e8re. Chacune d\u2019elle poss\u00e8de une monture, qui correspond aux animaux de la mythologie khm\u00e8re et donc aux signes du zodiaque<\/strong>. En 2016, nous sommes entr\u00e9s dans l\u2019ann\u00e9e du singe<\/a>. Les c\u00e9l\u00e9brations du nouvel an d\u00e9buteront le 14 avril.<\/p>\n

3 jours de f\u00eate<\/h2>\n

Au d\u00e9part, le nouvel an khmer avait lieu aux environs du mois de d\u00e9cembre<\/strong>, en pleine saison s\u00e8che. Mais de nombreux Cambodgiens \u00e9taient trop occup\u00e9s par les travaux agricoles \u00e0 cette p\u00e9riode de l\u2019ann\u00e9e. Au 11e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle, on d\u00e9cida donc de d\u00e9placer la date du nouvel an au cinqui\u00e8me mois du calendrier lunaire<\/strong>, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire mi-avril, apr\u00e8s la fin des moissons et avant le d\u00e9but de la saison des pluies. De la m\u00eame mani\u00e8re, les traditions brahmaniques ont disparu au fil du temps pour \u00eatre remplac\u00e9es par les coutumes bouddhistes.<\/p>\n

Au Cambodge, le nouvel an se d\u00e9roule sur trois jours<\/strong>, qui correspondent chacun \u00e0 un acte d\u00e9crit dans la l\u00e9gende. Il ne faut surtout pas d\u00e9roger aux traditions, et suivre correctement les rituels \u00e9tablis depuis plusieurs si\u00e8cles, afin de b\u00e9n\u00e9ficier de la protection des dieux. Les c\u00e9l\u00e9brations du nouvel an sont \u00e9galement propices aux rencontres entre les jeunes gens, puisqu\u2019il s\u2019agit d\u2019un des rares moments de l\u2019ann\u00e9e o\u00f9 ils peuvent participer \u00e0 des activit\u00e9s mixtes.<\/p>\n

Chaque jour correspond \u00e0 un acte<\/h2>\n

1er<\/sup> jour, Moha Songkran<\/em> :<\/strong> Les maisons sont nettoy\u00e9es et d\u00e9cor\u00e9es pour accueillir la nouvelle divinit\u00e9. On pr\u00e9pare des offrandes<\/strong> faites de fleurs, de fruits et d\u2019objets sacr\u00e9s sur des autels d\u00e9cor\u00e9s de guirlandes lumineuses. On installe bougies et b\u00e2tons d\u2019encens. On se rassemble dans les pagodes (vat<\/em>) pour prier aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s des bonzes et au son des tambours antiques.<\/p>\n

2e<\/sup> jour, Wanabat<\/em>\u00a0: <\/strong>On profite de cette journ\u00e9e pour offrir des cadeaux<\/strong> \u00e0 ses parents et ses grands-parents, ainsi qu\u2019aux foyers les plus pauvres. On \u00e9rige des monticules de sable sur le sol des pagodes, qui symbolisent l\u2019infini car il est impossible d\u2019en compter le nombre de grains. On allume ensuite un b\u00e2ton d\u2019encens que l\u2019on plante dans le monticule avec une pi\u00e8ce de monnaie.<\/p>\n

3e<\/sup> jour, Tanai Lieang Saka<\/em>\u00a0:<\/strong> Il s\u2019agit du moment des b\u00e9n\u00e9dictions. On baigne les statues de Bouddha pour se prot\u00e9ger durant l\u2019ann\u00e9e \u00e0 venir. Les Cambodgiens demandent aux bonzes de les absoudre de leurs p\u00e9ch\u00e9s et de les b\u00e9nir, eux et leur famille. Partout dans les rues, on se jette de l\u2019eau. Les plus jeunes se lancent de la farine. G\u00e9n\u00e9ralement, on cuisine des plats que l\u2019on am\u00e8ne aux bonzes dans la pagode. De nombreux Cambodgiens en profitent pour retourner dans leur r\u00e9gion natale, et peuvent ainsi visiter leur famille et retrouver des amis d\u2019enfance.<\/p>\n

Les jeux traditionnels<\/h2>\n

Ces trois jours de f\u00eate sont aussi l\u2019occasion de jouer \u00e0 des jeux traditionnels. Le boh angkunh<\/em><\/strong> se joue avec deux \u00e9quipes, l\u2019une f\u00e9minine et l\u2019autre masculine\u00a0: il s\u2019agit de lancer son angkunh<\/em> (sorte de palet) de\u00a0mani\u00e8re \u00e0 toucher l\u2019angkunh<\/em> de l\u2019\u00e9quipe adverse. Le chhoung<\/em><\/strong>, quant \u00e0 lui, m\u00eale danse et po\u00e9sie \u00e0 un jeu qui consiste \u00e0 toucher une personne de l\u2019autre \u00e9quipe avec une balle. Il faut \u00e9galement citer le leak kan saeng<\/em><\/strong>, qui ressemble au jeu du facteur, ainsi que le tir \u00e0 la corde, tr\u00e8s populaire pendant les c\u00e9l\u00e9brations du nouvel an.<\/p>\n

Chaul Chhnam<\/em> constitue l\u2019un des moments les plus importants du calendrier khmer. Aux quatre coins du globe, les communaut\u00e9s cambodgiennes se r\u00e9uniront \u00e0 la mi-avril pour c\u00e9l\u00e9brer le passage \u00e0 la nouvelle ann\u00e9e. Au m\u00eame moment, la Tha\u00eflande f\u00eatera Songkran<\/em> et le Laos Pimay<\/em><\/strong>, qui correspondent tous deux au nouvel an bouddhique.<\/p>\n
